Syria Humanitarian Crisis
URGENT HELP IN SYRIA IS NEEDED
More than 300,000 people have had to flee their homes since mid-December, 2019 due to an escalation of hostilities in northern Syria. Mercy-USA is on the ground now providing desperately need humanitarian aid.
According to the United Nations, due to the “sharp escalation of hostilities in southern Idlib, at least 300,000 civilians have fled their homes since mid-December. ” This newest influx of families fleeing airstrikes and shelling has created an even more grim humanitarian crisis in northern Syria than one can imagine. The weather is freezing, and there is shrinking space for more than 3 million people who have been displaced in recent months. It’s a complete humanitarian disaster. Our Syrian Mercy-USA field teams are on the ground distributing much needed shelter, food and healthcare to families who have just landed looking for safety in an already over-crowded part of Syria. We are bringing tents, mattresses, blankets, food baskets as well as ready to eat meals, and cooked meals to families once a day. This need is urgent.
We met Thamer Al-Defoo who, with his wife and four little children fled shelling last month together on their motorcycle. He told us this is the 6th time the family has been displaced. He told us since arriving, “I have been going out daily looking for work to get bread for the children, but we don’t get lucky every day.” Please help us bring Thamer’s family and thousands like them food and household kits so they can survive this winter.
WE NEED YOUR CHARITABLE GIFT TO FUND THIS WORK TODAY.
