Somalia is said to be the “second most climate-vulnerable country in the world.” Extreme weather, including successive droughts and floods exacerbated by sporadic armed conflict has created a perfect storm of suffering. Mercy-USA has been working in Somalia providing clean water and sanitation, healthcare, education projects, food aid, emergency relief, and seasonal food aid for more than 30 years.

The most innocent victims of war and environmental disasters are children and their mothers. According to UNICEF Somalia has one of the highest child and maternal mortality rates in the world.
Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Solutions
According to UNICEF in October 2022, “There have been four failed rainy seasons; the forecast for the fifth is looking pretty grim... Things are bad and every sign indicates that they are going to get worse.”
Saving Lives TB and HIV/AIDS Treatment Centers
Mercy-USA operates TB and HIV/AIDs health centers in Somalia in large part to the generous support of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria and UNICEF.
Seasonal Food Aid
Mercy-USA periodically provides food and other essential items to Somali families in need during Ramadan and Eid Al Adha, as well as at times of emergency or natural disasters.
