According to The Associated Press on April 29, 2024 "Israel’s war in Gaza has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials, around two-thirds of them children and women. The war has driven around 80% of Gaza’s population of 2.3 million from their homes, caused vast destruction in several towns and cities, and pushed northern Gaza to the brink of famine."
According to data at the time of publication from the United Nation’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the World Health Organization and the Palestinian government, more than half of Gaza’s homes, 360,000 residential units, had been destroyed or severely damaged. 378 places of learning had been destroyed; only 14 of 35 hospitals were partially open and 122 ambulances had been destroyed or damaged. 11 bakeries were destroyed.
Mercy-USA has partnered with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East for fifteen years providing support for education projects, healthcare and emergency relief. So far, we have supported emergency relief including healthcare for some of the 1.7 million displaced people in Gaza.
