Fall 2023 Detroit area hygiene distribution for homeless shelters
For those experiencing homelessness, it can be hard to obtain necessities like hygiene products and winter clothes. That’s why Mercy-USA for Aid and Development ran a hygiene supply drive throughout the fall of 2023.
This project ran from the beginning of October, 2023 and will continue until the beginning of December. The project consisted of biweekly packing and distribution days powered through the community volunteers.
Mercy-USA partnered with local shelters in Washtenaw County, MI to provide standardized hygiene kits, supplemental feminine hygiene packs as well as community-donated items. The kits were distributed over four different dates to partnering community outreach organizations.
The objective was to rally local communities through their places of worship, schools, and public facilities to collect the needed items. These items were thoughtfully assembled into kits and subsequently distributed to participating shelters.
Families have lost everything due to the effects of Hurricane Milton. Homes have been flooded, hit by tornados and damaging winds.
