Healthcare and Nutrition
Mercy-USA covered the healthcare needs of thousands of internally displaced Syrians through our Kelly health care center in Idlib province, Syria. The clinic provided life-saving interventions for those most vulnerable. It was considered one of the most crucial facilities in northwest Syria in an area overcrowded with internally displaced families.
The facility provided birthing services and pre- and post-natal care, as well as treatment for diarrhea, respiratory tract infections and skin conditions for boys and girls under five. Adults were treated for chronic conditions including hypertension, asthma, cardiac ailments, skin diseases, and had access to psychosocial support.
Additionally, pregnant and lactating women plus children were screened and treated for malnutrition.
The facility also featured a pharmacy and an advanced diagnostic lab.
In addition to the stationary clinic, we operated mobile medical teams to provide healthcare for all and nutrition support for children, pregnant and lactating women in the camps for internally displaced persons.
Mercy-USA, had well-trained and experienced local community health workers in northern Syria. These Rapid Response Teams travelled through camps for internally displaced persons to identify children five and under and their mothers who were nursing or pregnant and at risk of malnutrition.
