Emergency in Lebanon

Due to military strikes from Israel Defense Forces into Lebanon– as far north as Beirut–families have been fleeing their homes for safety in the north. Hundreds have arrived in Wadi Khaled, in Akkar Governorate, a much cooler and mountainous part of the country where the infrastructure and people have been struggling before this latest influx of needy families. Mercy-USA has been providing free medical care via our mobile medical unit for years in Wadi Khaled.

What is Mercy-USA doing to help?

  • We have mobilized our medical team to the area where the new displaced families have arrived and are offering immediate medical interventions. We are distributing ready to eat meals to these families who have arrived hungry, cold and traumatized. Our emergency response will evolve in the days to come as we assess greatest needs.

Report from our Mobile Medical Unit Head Physician, Dr. Mustafa Ali on the first day of Mercy-USA Medical Relief in Lebanon for Newly Arrived Displaced Families

“In the last twenty-four hours at our Mobile Medical Clinic in Wadi Khaled, we have seen a significant influx of displaced people from the south, including Bakaa and Hermel. After assessing their locations and needs, we traveled to the area to provide treatment.

As anticipated, many of the issues we encountered stemmed from pollution related to bombings, climate conditions, and general air pollution. Among the over seventy patients we treated, we also saw cases of sunstroke, dehydration, and vomiting due to the long and tiring journey they made from the south.

Fortunately, we had all the necessary medical equipment and medications on hand, allowing us to treat all patients immediately.”
